Castro-Rodriguez is a Professor (Full) of Pediatrics at Department of Pediatric Pulmonology, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago, and Chief of Research Commission at the Division of Pediatrics. He was graduated in Medicine from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, in Lima, Peru; and completed the residency in Pediatrics. He was trained as a Fellow in Pediatric Pulmonary in Santiago, Chile at the Universidad de Chile. And took a position as a Research Fellow at The University of Arizona in Tucson, US.
One of his major contributions was the creation of the Asthma Predictive Index (Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2000; 162:1403-6) with more than 1,550 citations and incorporated into several international asthma guidelines. In 2020 was designed an American Thoracic Society Fellow. classified among the top 55,000 researchers across all fields in the world (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918). He awarded the “Master of Latin American Pediatric Pulmonology” from the Latin American Pediatric Pulmonology Society (Dominican R., 2018), “Worldwide Scientific Prize” from the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (Montreal, Canada, 2002); “Pediatric Year in Review Paper” at the ATS-2001, CA (New Engl J Med 2000; 343: 538-543, with more than 1,220 citations); and “Peruvian Scientific Prize” from CONCITEC (Peru,1993).
His main areas of interest are recurrent wheeze and asthma phenotypes, acute bronchiolitis, asthma treatment and epigenetic (fetal programming). He published more than 190 papers, many of them in collaboration with investigators from all over the world. He is frequently invited to give keynote presentations at international meetings in more than 30 countries.
