Mieke Boon is a pediatric pulmonologist with expertise in cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia and sleep medicine. After finishing her training in Pediatric Pulmonology in 2011, she completed a PhD in biomedical sciences in 2015, entitled ‘Towards understanding ciliary motility and ciliary disorders’, under the supervision of Prof. Kris De Boeck.
In 2016, she joined the clinical CF team of Professor Kris De Boeck in Leuven (Belgium) and became associate professor of Pediatrics at the KU Leuven. As a pediatric pulmonologist, Mieke Boon is active in the Leuven Cystic Fibrosis Reference Centre. Moreover, she takes care of patients with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, non-invasive ventilation and other Pediatric Respiratory disorders.
She is involved in the European BEAT-PCD project on PCD, and is member of the recently established PCD-CTN Clinical Trial Network. Her research focuses on the diagnosis, characterization and management of patients with PCD.
She published more than 50 scientific papers in peer review journals.
