Eric Forno

Erick Forno, MD MPH, is Director of the Asthma Center at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical & Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his medical degree (MD) from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Perú, and a Master in Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed residency in general pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Forno’s overarching research interests are: the epidemiology and genomics of asthma; the effects of obesity and metabolic dysregulation on lung health; and the use of technology to improve the care of people with respiratory diseases. He serves as an Associate Editor for Pediatric Pulmonology, and in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) he serves in the ATS Scientific Advisory Committee, the Executive Committee for the Section on Genetics and Genomics, and as chair of the Pediatrics Assembly Planning Committee.


In recognition for his contributions, Dr. Forno was elected to the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR) in 2013, and has received the Robert Mellins Outstanding Achievement Award from the Pediatrics Assembly of the ATS (2017), the Klosterfrau International Award for Research in Pediatric Airway Diseases (2017), and the Drukier Prize in Children’s Health Research (2021). He has given numerous invited lectures in US and international venues, including the ATS International Conference, European Respiratory Society International Congress, and the Latin American Thoracic Society Congress. He first attended CIPP VIII as a fellow, and now joins CIPP XXI as faculty.
